***An important note on Nudes: Most contemporary nude photography mistakes nudity for substance. The photographer gets a woman undressed, presses the shutter, and calls it fine art. The woman inside the body, who she is, what her passions, desires, and identity are, isn't photographed at all. That's not a portrait, nor is it art. That's a photograph of a naked body with a person accidentally attached; it’s just information. My current Nudes project works in the tradition of such luminaries as Edward Weston, Helmut Newton, and Robert Mapplethorpe, where the subject is a full human being with presence, agency, and a gaze of her own.
None of my work uses AI. No manipulation of any kind. In an era when much of the nude imagery people are consuming is synthetic, generated from training data, composited from other women's bodies, or smoothed into something no real human actually looks like , the subject in front of my camera is an actual woman, seen as she chose to be seen, in a single frame that captures what was in the room.
I photograph women who are collaborators, not objects. They look directly back at the camera. They decide how they want to be seen. They own the frame as much as I do. This project is about giving women back the authorship of their own image. In an era still reckoning with how women's bodies have been depicted, misused, and commodified in art, advertising, and media, returning that authorship is long overdue.
If you'd like to see the entire nudes body of work I have shot (so far), you can go to this link or view my substack here. I have published more than 150 images so far, with plenty more to come, and this will be my third fine art book.
